Radical Self Acceptance & The Solar Plexus

How many times in your life have you felt complete confidence, clarity and drive…ready to radiate your fierce inner power into the world?

When you feel this way, it is likely that your solar plexus is functioning at its optimal state.

The solar plexus chakra, known in Sanskrit as Manipura, is the third chakra and is located about six inches above your belly button. It is the chakra primarily associated with self-esteem, confidence and willpower.

When in balance, the solar plexus chakra helps you to have control over your thoughts and emotional responses, set healthy boundaries, and be at peace with yourself.

The Solar Plexus and Self-Acceptance

Self-acceptance and how we feel about ourselves determines our quality of life…how we are treated in relationships, in business, and beyond. For many people, this is the most challenging spiritual endeavor we will face – learning to truly and fully love ourselves.

When we have a deficient solar plexus, we are prone to issues such as low self-esteem, poor willpower, sensitivity to criticism, and an inability to stand up for what we believe in. We seek approval from others, have trouble setting boundaries, and may attract co-dependent or unhealthy relationships.

The more you accept yourself, the more worthy you become. You cannot create anything in your life that you do not believe you are worthy of, so this path is essential to growth.

Healing the Solar Plexus Chakra

So what does a healthy and balanced solar plexus chakra look and feel like?

When you have a clear, strong and harmonious solar plexus chakra, you will feel confident in yourself. You will no longer struggle with self-doubt. Instead, you’ll feel comfortable in your own skin and you’ll trust in your abilities.

chakra, you will feel confident in yourself. You will no longer struggle with self-doubt. Instead, you’ll feel comfortable in your own skin and you’ll trust in your abilities.

Not only will you feel more self-assured, but you will also have the energy and willpower needed to create healthy boundaries and carry out your goals and dreams with enthusiasm. You will feel energized, empowered, and in alignment with life.

Here are 10 ways to heal the solar plexus chakra:

  1. Meditation & Visualization - Envision a brilliant yellow ball of light over your solar plexus chakra. Feel the ball of golden energy dissolving all blockages or aggressive flows of energy within you. This can be even more effective with the use of yellow stones like citrine, amber, sunstone, yellow tourmaline and tiger’s eye.

  2. Yoga - Postures that strengthen and bring heat to the core are excellent for healing the solar plexus! Half Moon, Crescent, Boat Pose, Seated Spinal Twist, Warrior, and Breath of Fire can all be used to balance this chakra.

  3. Affirmations & Mantras - Affirmations like “I embrace my strength,” “I love the person I am,” “I stand up for myself,” “I am responsible for my life,” “I am worthy of love and kindness,” and “I am whole” can help you to reclaim your personal power. The mantra sound for the third chakra is RAM. The vibrations of this sound match the vibrations of the solar plexus, so chanting it will help open and align the chakra.

  4. Food - Eat more whole grains and legumes, and add spices such as turmeric, ginger, cumin, and cinnamon as these spices are heating to the body. Also include yellow foods like lemons, bananas, corn, pineapple, and yellow capsicums.

  5. Sun - As the solar plexus chakra is represented by the element of fire, the sun is an immensely healing source of vitality. Taking a morning walk in the sunshine or relaxing in the afternoon sun is a powerful practice for the solar plexus chakra.

  6. Take Risks - Lethargic and “safe” routines only perpetuate our feelings of powerlessness. Break the dull inertia of your life and try something new. Even small breaks in routine will infuse you with energy and vitality.

  7. Stay Away from Negative People - Cut ties with any critical or negative people in your life. If you can’t cut ties permanently, try your best to keep your distance.

  8. Release Anger - Our congested power is often expressed as blocked anger, so when we release that anger, we can access that energy again. Try releasing your anger in a healthy way…through vigorous exercise, kickboxing, dancing, singing, writing, crying or expressing it through art.

  9. Let go of ‘Victim’ Mentality - One of the most damaging mindsets carried by those with blocked solar plexus chakras is the notion that they are “powerless” and defenseless victims of life. Playing the victim is attractive because it allows us to bypass the weight of self-responsibility, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself terrified of “stepping up” and reclaiming your power. It takes practice and courage.

  10. Release Unhealthy Attachments - Attachments are essentially forms of energy that become “stuck” in our bodies and minds, and can result in severely limiting beliefs. The best way to break an unhealthy attachment is by asking yourself, “Is this belief/memory/desire/person/object serving my highest good?” The moment you can acknowledge that something in your life is not serving you, is the moment you can begin the process of recovery.
